Hong Kong - Wang Qingxia, the fiancée of former TVB actor and
singer Lee Lung-kei, has been sentenced to 25 months in prison. She was
convicted on five charges related to overstaying in Hong Kong and forging
university certificates to obtain an entry permit.
Wang, a 36-year-old
artist from mainland China, appeared in Sha Tin Court and pleaded guilty to two
counts of breaching her conditions of stay, using a false instrument, making
false statements to obtain her entry permit, and making a false declaration to
immigration officers. The court found that she had fabricated three graduation
certificates from a US aviation academy to apply for a migration scheme and
seek employment in Hong Kong.
Lee Lung-kei
expressed surprise at the length of the jail term but vowed to wait for Wang’s
release and marry her afterward. The case highlights Hong Kong’s efforts to
attract talent and bolster manpower in innovation sectors amid an emigration
trend.
Wang Qingxia’s
conviction underscores the seriousness of immigration-related offenses and
their impact on the local labor market. Lee Lung-kei remains committed to their
relationship despite the legal challenges.
