Tiger 3 Makes Global Debut at No.4 Despite Postponed Release
Tiger 3 created by Yash Raj Films, starring both Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, has made their debut appearance at fourth place. They earned a total of $11.5 million, according to Comscore. By: Dylan Low
The film accomplished this despite showcasing in India on Sunday, 12th November, and the day of the Diwali Festival. With Diwali being India’s most prominent festival, audiences traditionally avoid cinemas to conduct family celebrations in the lead up to it.
The Tiger trilogy screened a day earlier in North America, on Nov. 11. The Hindi-language film was also broadcasted in Tamil and Telugu-language dubbed editions.
In India, the film collected $6.3 million on a weekend which included dubbed versions, reference to Yash Raj Films. This achieved the highest grossing in the history of Hindi cinema, surpassing that of Krrish 3 in 2013. It also marked the biggest opening day for Salman Khan, passing Bharat and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which made it the biggest opening day of the Tiger franchise as well.
North America saw Tiger 3 showcasing across an estimated 750 theatres and grossed $2.25 million. The film opened across 105 territories in total.
