Jimmy Kimmel Returns to Host 2024 Oscars in Fourth Stint
Renowned Emmy Award winner Jimmy Kimmel is set to take centre stage once again as the host for the highly anticipated 2024 Oscars ceremony. By: Wee Yan Ling
This will mark Kimmel’s fourth time leading the prestigious event with the late-night star having steering the wheel in 2017,2018 and 2023. The upcoming Oscars is scheduled for Sunday, 10 March 2024. Kimmel will be joining the other esteemed hosts which includes Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon.
Kimmel had noted that, "I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times." Kimmel is best known for his wit and charm however, he had also left an indelible mark alongside legendary figures such as Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, and Bob Hope.
The Oscars hosted by Kimmel this year had witnessed a surge in viewership of 18.8 million viewers. This is a remarkable 13% increase from the previous year. The ceremony had surpassed the 2023 Grammys and Emmys by more than double and had achieved an astounding 4.0 rating in the coveted adults 18-49 key demographic. This exemplary performance has catapulted the Oscars to three-year highs in the total viewers and key demographic as there is a 5% rise since 2020.
