“At a time when traditional programming feels homogenous and when finding what to watch feels like a chore, Tubi has been effective at delivering delight beyond the monoculture with content that appeals to diverse and vibrant fandoms,” said David Salmon, EVP and Managing Director of International at Tubi.
UK - Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corporation is making waves in
the streaming industry with the UK launch of Tubi, a free ad-supported
streaming service. Set to compete with heavyweights like Netflix and Disney+,
Tubi aims to provide a diverse content library for viewers.
Tubi, headquartered
in San Francisco, already boasts nearly 80 million monthly active users in
North America. The service offers a personalised streaming experience,
leveraging machine learning to curate content. Viewers can expect more than
20,000 films and TV episodes, including blockbusters, original stories, and
hidden gems.
Major distributors
like Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures Entertainment
contribute programming. Tubi Originals, such as Big Mood starring Nicola
Coughlan, will be featured alongside Hollywood films, modern British classics,
and international cinema (Bollywood, Nollywood, and arthouse).
Tubi will be
available “in the coming weeks” on major smart TV platforms, iPhones, Android
devices, and web browsers. Fox plans to launch a marketing campaign on July 15.
Notably, this marks Fox’s first foray into ad-supported digital TV in the UK.
Tubi’s arrival
promises exciting options for UK viewers seeking quality content without a
subscription fee.
