New Director for Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM)

Ellen Y.D. Kim, the newly appointed director, is steering the ship, and there’s a palpable sense of change in the air.

Korea - Ellen Y.D. Kim isn’t a newcomer to the scene. She played a pivotal role in launching the market back in 2006 alongside filmmaker Park Kwang-su. Now, she’s back at the helm, bringing her wealth of experience and fresh ideas to the table.

Her return is timely, especially after a tumultuous year for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which saw senior figures resigning just months before the previous ACFM. Imagine organizing an event without a leader it felt like a soulless machine running on autopilot. Kim’s positive energy is a much-needed boost for the organization.

ACFM is debuting its first-ever Producer Hub this year. This exciting addition aims to foster international co-production and financing opportunities. It’s where industry professionals can connect, collaborate, and hatch new projects.

The conference agenda includes discussions on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the film industry and the continued growth of local over-the-top (OTT) platforms. These topics reflect the evolving landscape of entertainment and technology.

Kim acknowledges that she had limited room for immediate changes upon taking the directorship. However, the Producer Hub and curated conferences are just the beginning. She’s planning more innovations beyond this edition, promising a dynamic future for ACFM.

The convention center in Busan buzzes with over 2,500 industry professionals and 15,000 visitors from 50 countries, keep an eye out for the fresh ideas and collaborations sparked by Ellen Y.D. Kim’s leadership.
