75th Emmy Awards Adjourns to January to Evade Effects of Strike

With unions of Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) embroiled in an ongoing strike, the 75th Emmy Awards has been rescheduled for January 15. By: Theng Min Yee

The US Television Academy and the Fox Network announced that the 75th Emmys Ceremony would be held on January 15, which is four months after the event’s initial planned date of commencement in September. The decision was made as a result of the ongoing writers and actors strike, where the original date for the Emmys was ultimately deemed as untenable.

With the strikes still in effect, a September ceremony would have no choice but to enlist reality show stars and executives as presenters. Nonetheless, the ceremony’s venue at the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles’ LA remains unchanged.

The Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies, originally set for September 9 and 10, will now take place on January 6 and 7, also at the Peacock Theatre. The Emmys ceremony was last rescheduled in 2001, when the 9/11 attacks postponed the show to November.
