Popular Philippines' actors Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada portray main characters in their international film debut Toss Coin, a microfilm directed by acclaimed Philippines' chart-topping film director, Cathy Garcia-Sampana. By: Dylan Low
Toss Coin will be Philippines' nominee for the “Hong Kong In The Lens By Asian Directors” project created by CJ ENM Hong Kong (CJ ENM HK) and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB).
Alice Li, General Manager of Corporate Affairs in HKTB, stated “We believe that the power of movies goes beyond entertainment to connect audiences. This amazing work not only connects audiences in your local market (the Philippines) but also in Hong Kong.”
The storyline is based on the unforeseen meeting between Kiko (KD) and Pia (Alexa) and their magical love story that takes place on the urban streets of Hong Kong. Playing a fun game of hide and seek, Kiko and Pia begin a journey of a sweet and touching romance, starring concepts of destiny, belief, and the courage to take opportunities.
After directing the biggest domestic film in Philippine history, Hello, Love, Goodbye, filmed in Hong Kong back in 2019, Direk Cathy highlighted the attractiveness of the city by showcasing the authenticity and human interaction in the film backed by the scenic background of Hong Kong and the enthralling chemistry of the main leads.
Director Cathy Garcia-Sampana said, “While I personally like the city's human touch and culture, this time, I had the opportunity to show the other side of Hong Kong, highlighting the beautiful architecture of the buildings and the intersection between artistic galleries and vibrant murals that blended perfectly with the story and Kdlex's chemistry.”
This "Hong Kong In The Lens By Asian Directors" project has been chosen to be included in the 20th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, joined by two other short films – Hong Kong, Within Me from Korea and Zi Mui from Thailand.
