Percy Jackson and the Olympians Arrives on Disney+ and Hulu a Day Earlier

Christmas just came early for Rick Riordan fans, as Percy Jackson and the Olympians streams on Disney+ and Hulu a day in advance, ahead of its scheduled Dec. 20 premiere. By: Dylan Low

This marks the second change Disney has made to the series. Last week, it was unveiled that the first episode would be available on Hulu and also on Disney+, which will be streaming through January 31st. Currently, the first two episodes can now be watched on Disney+ with the first episode available on Hulu. New episodes will feature every week on Disney+ until the Season 1 finale ending on January 31st.

“We’re so grateful for the amazing and dedicated Percy Jackson fans who have enthusiastically supported this project from the very beginning,” stated by Pamela Levine, head of marketing at Disney Branded Television and National Geographic Content. “They’ve been counting down the days, and as a special thank you, we wanted to let our fans enjoy the first two episodes a bit earlier than expected.”

The series has been highly anticipated amongst fans of the Percy Jackson series. Rick Riordan published the first of five Percy Jackson and the Olympians books in 2005, and production company 20th Century Fox had adapted the first two books into movies back in 2010 and 2013. However, with changes to the plot and Riordan’s contempt for the films, it affected film popularity, resulting in the other three books of the series never making it to the big screen.

The distinction now is Riordan being a writer and executive producer on the Disney+ series, with the aim of releasing five seasons for each of the five books.

20th Television President Karey Burke has claimed the studios plan to use “all” of the books Riordan has written for the Percy Jackson franchise, extending beyond the original five. “In spite of the movie experience that he had before, he’s an expansive thinker about his work,” she mentioned. “He doesn’t have a rigid interpretation of it. The other series that he’s created that live in this world are all part of our universe that we can adapt.”
