Media company Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has collaborated with telco company Taiwan Mobile to launch its local streaming service HBO GO on the platform. By: Dylan Low
HBO GO will
now be accessible using Taiwan Mobile devices February 1st onwards, which
allows subscribers to view local HBO Asia originals, namely the Taiwanese
comedy-drama The Accidental Influencer, which will make its premiere on
February 10th.
The
streaming platform will also provide a variety of HBO and Max original series
such as The White Lotus, Succession, The Last of Us, House of The Dragon
and Game of Thrones, alongside Hollywood hit films like Barbie.
In
celebration of the Lunar New Year, Taiwan Mobile now has a special promotional
annual subscription fee of NT$69 (US$2.2) monthly, available February 1st to
14th (usual price NT$90), with simultaneous streaming granted to three devices.
Cindy Ma,
WBD Southeast Asia’s head of affiliate sales and Taiwan’s head of commercial,
claimed, “This new collaboration with Taiwan Mobile will substantially grow our
streaming scale in Taiwan. With thousands of hours of premium entertainment on
HBO GO, customers can enjoy award-winning shows from Hollywood, as well as
stories from across the region including the upcoming original, The
Accidental Influencer.”
Featuring
Taiwanese actress Shu-Yao Kuo, The Accidental Influencer follows the
life of Red Ho, whose hope for a perfect life is shattered when being abruptly
dumped by her boyfriend on her birthday. She heads to social media to state her
grievances and finds herself with a surprising outcome, where she rediscovers
her independence and goes on an unexpected journey.
The launch
on Taiwan Mobile comes after the Memorandum of Understanding agreed last year
between both companies, joined by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA),
with the three promising to partner in developing, producing and distributing
Taiwanese IP and content.
Other HBO
GO originals consist of titles The Teenage Psychic, Dream Raider and
The World Between Us, which are free to be streamed in Southeast Asia, Hong
Kong and Taiwan.
