Amber Heard: Life After Legal Drama

After the sensational trial last year, where her ex-husband Johnny Depp sued her for defamation, Heard had relocated to various places to maintain her privacy and focus on her career. She sold her home in Yucca Valley, California, for $1.1 million opting for a more private and low-profile lifestyle in Europe with her daughter, Oonagh Page.
One of her primary residential locations has been New York City. Heard is known to have spent considerable time in the bustling metropolis, where she could blend in with the crowd and escape the paparazzi. Additionally, she has also been seen spending time in London, often drawing less attention than in her previous high-profile LA life. As of now, she has reportedly moved to Mallorca, Spain, before then settling down in Madrid. Just a few days ago, she was spotted returning to her Madrid residence with crutches, due to an apparent hip injury she incurred while training for the NYC marathon.
Amber Heard was known for her commitment to advocacy and philanthropy, particularly focusing on issues such as domestic violence and women's rights, which came under scrutiny during the legal face-off with Depp. Her donation pledge of $7 million dollars to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Children's Hospital Los Angeles was a contentious point during the trial, contributing to the massive online vitriol she received. Her philanthropic efforts have dwindled since then, especially with the United Nations Human Rights Commission removing her ambassador role.
Filming Roles
As of this year, Amber Heard has continued to pursue her acting career. In June 2023, she promoted her latest film In the Fire at the 69th Taormina Film Festival. She plays an American psychiatrist, who goes to Colombia to care for a child who people believe is possessed. “It’s a beautiful movie about the almost supernatural effect and force of love,” she said at the festival, just over a year after the conclusion of her defamation trial.
Her past projects include the adaptation of Stephen King's post-apocalyptic novel, The Stand. The series aired in 2020, after the libel trial with Depp, where she first threw out the abuse allegations against her ex-husband. In this miniseries, Heard portrays Nadine Cross, a character who becomes entangled in a battle between good and evil in a world ravaged by a deadly pandemic. The Stand received positive reviews for its dark and gripping narrative, and Heard's performance was praised for adding depth to her character.
The public will be able to see Heard in theatres this year in Aquaman 2, the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster hit Aquaman. She reprises her role as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis, alongside Jason Momoa as Aquaman. The film, directed by James Wan, explores the underwater world of Atlantis further and promises to delve into the complex relationship between Mera and Aquaman. The production faced some delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the negative press around the actress, but it is expected to be released in late 2023. During her defamation trial, Heard said that she “fought really hard” to keep her role, amidst the voices of critics and haters.
Amber Heard has managed to move forward with her life and career despite the legal drama that garnered extensive media attention. She has chosen to live a more private and less high-profile lifestyle, focusing on her passion for acting. In an exclusive interview with Deadline this June, Heard shared about her latest project In the Fire. “Right now, I just kind of want to not have, you know, stones thrown at me so much. So let’s get the elephant out of the room then, and just let me say that. I am an actress. I’m here to support a movie. And that’s not something I can be sued for.”
