Apple TV+ has begun to establish itself as another prominent streaming service amongst the leading streamers. Consisting of a diverse range of shows, Apple TV+ features exclusive Apple original content from some of the industry’s top talent, with new premieres arriving each month. By: Dylan Low
A streaming service designed by Apple, Apple TV+ currently showcases Apple original films and TV shows which are streamed in high quality such as 4K HDR. Viewers subscribed to Apple will be able to watch across all their available screens and pick up where they last watched on their devices. With popular streaming features such as being ad-free, this makes Apple TV+, comparable to other trending platforms such as Netflix and Disney+.
Through purchasing an Apple device, Apple TV+ is provided part of the package, complimentary for three months. For a monthly subscription, viewers can choose to pay $9.99/month for its original version and $13.99/month for 4K.
The film and series content can be found exclusively using the Apple TV app. Viewers will be able to watch the shows which are made available on the Apple TV set-top box, iPhone, or iPad.
Despite Apple TV+ being a relatively new platform in the streaming industry, it consists of top exclusive films comprising popular comedy Ted Lasso and top sci-fi drama Severance. Its range of accomplished shows has led to its rise to streaming popularity, seen in them landing up to 54 Emmy nominations across 13 of their trending titles in 2023. Once again, Ted Lasso was noted to be the most Emmy-nominated comedy for the third consecutive year.
Apple TV + is continuing to make waves in the industry with its hefty $2.5 billion investment obtaining exclusive streaming rights paying off with football star Lionel Messi’s arrival to MLS team Inter Miami. With his arrival, it led to a rise in subscribers for the MLS season pass, achieving more than double.
Inter Miami boss Jorge Mas tweeted on X, “The Messi Effect is real! Subscribers to #MLSSeasonPass on @AppleTV have more than doubled since Messi joined @InterMiamiCF. Also, Spanish language viewership on #MLSSeasonPass on @AppleTV has surpassed over 50% for Messi matches and continues to rise. How exciting for a truly global fan base!”
CEO of Apple, Tim Cook has heaped praise on the accomplishment, confirming,
"We are beating our expectations in terms of subscribers" which further highlights the significant impact of Messi's presence. Currently, AppleTV+ looks to cash in on the popularity of MLS as they create a documentary series on Messi’s arrival in the league. It is set to garner much more engagement and attention as they hope to earn higher viewership numbers.
As Apple TV+ continues to grow in the streaming industry, it will surely be a popular platform for the years to come, with their quality features, top-tier content and business partnerships with notable brands like the MLS.
