Description
Five Nights at Freddy's takes place in an eerie world of a Chuck E Cheese-style pizza restaurant for kids that is long past its prime. Though the restaurant has been closed for years, an unfortunate security guard has to take up the job of keeping everyone out. Mike’s circumstance leaves him with no choice as he struggles to make ends meet, as he has to bear the responsibility of caring for his younger sister while dealing with the preposterous and meddlesome aunt that threatens to get custody of her sister.
Mike’s life is coloured by the shadow of his brother’s disappearance when they were children as the unresolved mystery still haunts him today. He revisits the day through his dreams on a journey to uncover the truth despite the inadvisable napping on the job.
As the film is a family-friendly PG-13 one, it has inadvertently resulted in the heavy censors and lackluster death scenes. The clunky animatronics mascots move at an incredibly slow pace which generates tension at every scene.
One might anticipate the show to be adrenaline inducing and enthralling due to the escalating build up, however the film takes a turn to the mystery-driven narrative. Mike’s challenges are coupled with an unwavering determination to solve the disappearance of his brother from long ago and his sleep allows him to unlock repressed memories to uncover long-hidden details.
Five Nights at Freddy’s tells a story that is more mystifying than scary and while it delves into the haunting world of the animatronics, struggles to live up to the potential spine-tingling thrills due to the censorship.
