Description

This heart-throbbing, romantic film has featured in cinemas this year, attracting audiences worldwide as they relate to a realistic, emotionally mature type of romance showcased in the interactions of the main characters.

Directed by Korean-Canadian scriptwriter and filmmaker Celine Song, Past Lives marks her first ever feature film, depicting the reunion of two childhood friends Nora and Hae Sung for one fateful week, years later in their thirties. So much has changed amongst them, as Nora is now married to an American writer named Arthur and has found her career as a Playwright. Hae Sung on the other hand, had come off a breakup and visited New York.

The film highlights an emotionally mature perspective of love - where there seemingly may be grey areas and romantic-platonic feelings that are undefined and always changing.

Past Lives showcases that there are many types of love which can exist side-by-side, as Nora shares fast-paced and intense romantic moments with Hae Sung which contrasts with her long-term and stable relationship with Arthur. It challenges the normality of love being clearly defined in every relationship, allowing people to come with terms that it is okay to be heartbroken sometimes and not every relationship is perfect.

Audiences will undoubtedly be hooked onto the film as they relate to the romantic interactions of a budding love triangle amongst the main characters. The film additionally consists of aesthetic shots which shows a beautiful city setting and closeup film on household items such as wooden floors and pressed linen.

This accomplished film has won the hearts of many, winning awards by organisations such as Hollywood Critic Association and Golden Trailer. It has been also nominated for various prizes at multiple film festivals in Berlin, Deauville and Jerusalem, etc.
