Based
on the book by Lebron James and Buzz Bissinger, this film adaptation showcases
the origin of global NBA superstar Lebron James, as he and his group of friends

Directed
by Emmy-nominated director Chris Robinson, Shooting Stars is a well-paced yet
content-packed coming-of-age film centred around basketball. The film showcases
life values such as friendship, family, kindness, and the importance of
determination.
This
sports biography is noted to be an inspiring and heartwarming story, a
captivating adaptation from James’ book which recognises the people that are
important in his life and how they have contributed to his current success. The
movie showcases a very young Lebron James alongside his three best friends Lil
Dru, William McGee and Sian Cotton who called themselves the “Fab Four”. They
soon meet a fifth member, Romeo Travis, who is an addition to the friend group
in high school.
What
makes the film unique is the incredible portrayal of the characters. Marquis
Cook, who makes his film debut, stands out with his realistic performance as
Lebron. He is able to naturally show subtle and spot-on reenacted expressions
similar to James, that fans will surely recognise and feel nostalgia towards.
Khalil Everage, who features in long-time series Kobra Kai, has a hilarious
approach in his role as Sian. With many quick and witty moments, audiences will
surely enjoy every scene with him in it.
Not
only is Shooting Stars a remarkable film, but a refreshing reminder to
many that the most important win in life is the relationships you have around
you.
