Famed Director Quentin Tarantino Changes Mind on Final Film; Shelves The Movie Critic

Director Quentin Tarantino has abandoned The Movie Critic, restarting his tenth and likely final film project. By: Kritchanon Tan Kian Wei

US - Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino has revealed that he has dropped The Movie Critic, as he looks to other ideas for what will be his tenth and final project.

After a “change of heart”, the 61-year-old will reportedly be restarting from scratch, abandoning The Movie Critic, which was set to begin filming in 2024 and star Brad Pitt, even after the script had been rewritten by Tarantino himself.

The news comes after rumours started circulating that many actors from his past films would star, and that Sony Pictures Releasing wanted to make the film with Tarantino after his great work with them on the comedy-drama film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood which premiered in 2019.

Tarantino has expressed interest in ending his filmmaking career after his tenth film for the longest time, saying in 2009 that he wanted to retire when he is 60, and then in 2014, saying in an interview: “It’s not etched in stone, but that is the plan. If I get to the 10th, do a good job and don’t screw it up, well that sounds like a good way to end the old career. If, later on, I come across a good movie, I won’t not do it just because I said I wouldn’t. But 10 and done, leaving them wanting more — that sounds right.”

This is not the first time Tarantino has shelved a movie. The western film The Hateful Eight was initially shelved by Tarantino after the film’s script was leaked in January 2014, but was later made into a movie that premiered in 2015 after a charity reading of the script drew rave reviews.
