Protagonist Pictures has closed a series of deals for H Is For Hawk, starring Claire Foy and Brendan Gleeson, as production gets underway in Wales.
Lionsgate has acquired the UK-Ireland distribution
rights for the film adaptation of Helen Macdonald’s memoir, “H Is For Hawk,”
starring Claire Foy and Brendan Gleeson. Directed by BAFTA-winning Philippa
Lowthorpe, the film began shooting in Wales on November 7, 2024.
The story follows Helen Macdonald (Foy), who, after
the sudden death of her father (Gleeson), finds solace in training a goshawk
named Mabel. This journey of grief and healing is brought to life by a script
adapted by Emma Donoghue, known for her work on “Room” and "The
Wonder".
Produced by Plan B Entertainment in association with
Cardiff-based Good Gate Media, the project has also secured deals with
Filmcoopi for Switzerland, M2 for Eastern Europe, and Front Row for the Middle
East. Film developed the project and will co-finance and executive produce
alongside Peephole Productions.
Protagonist Pictures, which is handling international
sales, expressed excitement about the film’s potential to resonate with
audiences due to its universal themes of love, loss, and recovery. The
production is supported by Creative Wales, Ffilm Cymru, and Calculus Media.
With a strong creative team and a compelling
narrative, “H Is For Hawk” promises to be a poignant and visually
stunning adaptation of Macdonald’s beloved memoir.
