SkyShowtime introduces ad-tier in Europe after Advertising Sales Deal with Paramount

SkyShowtime rolls out an ad-tier for its streaming service across Europe following an advertising sales deal with Paramount. By Ching Wai.

Europe - SkyShowtime, a Comcast and Paramount joint European streamer, has signed with Paramount Advertising International in an advertising sales deal. The latter will oversee SkyShowtime’s advertising sales across all of its markets. The deal will provide advertisers with access to advertising opportunities in over 20 European markets.

SkyShowtime had previously introduced plans for its ad-supported tier in February, and launched its ad-tier across all its markets on 23 April. The streamer’s Standard with Ads plan includes an average of four to five minutes of advertising per hour. The new subscription plan rolls out alongside SkyShowtime’s existing ad-free plan, which will be re-named as Standard Plus.

Pricing for the Standard with Ads plan varies across regions. The plan has a monthly rate of €5.99 (US$6.42) in Spain, Serbia, Croatia and Slovakia, €6.99 (US$7.49) in Finland and the Netherlands, and €3.99 (US$4.27) in Bulgaria and Romania.

“From the start, SkyShowtime has been about delivering value and the promise of great entertainment at a great price. The launch of our ad-supported plan is the next step in evolving our service, coming at a time when people are looking for more choice and flexibility. We are excited to be the first streaming service to offer consumers across all of our markets an ad-supported option,” said SkyShowtime chief executive officer, Monty Sarhan.

Lee Sears, Paramount’s president of international markets ad sales, said, “By leveraging our deep relationships with some of the world’s leading marketers, incredible product offerings and innovative technology, Paramount Advertising is the perfect partner for SkyShowtime. We will enhance our value to our partners by enabling advertisers to buy across SkyShowtime’s global franchises, series and films alongside the breadth of Paramount’s premium video inventory in a comprehensive and impactful way.”

The deal comes amidst negotiations between Paramount and Skydance, as well as Sony and Apollo’s venture to jointly bid for Paramount Global.
