Studiocanal’s Paddington In Peru Commences Shooting

The highly anticipated threequel began filming in the UK amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. By: Yan Yun

Paddington In Peru is shooting in London, Columbia, and Peru. The film’s production is helmed by commercials filmmaker Dougal Wilson from a script crafted by Mark Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont. The narrative itself is inspired by Paddington 1 and 2, which were born from the collaborative efforts of Paul King, Simon Farnaby, and Burton. Meanwhile, its producers, David Heyman and Rosie Alison, also produce for the UK’s Heyday Films.

Leading the cast are actors Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Olivia Colman, Rachel Zegler, and Emily Mortimer. Notably, British actress Emily Mortimer will be taking on the role of Mrs. Brown, stepping into the character previously portrayed by Sally Hawkins.

In a post on social media on July 14, US actress Zegler suggested that she had returned to the US to support the actors’ strike. The West Side Story star posted a picture on her Instagram story featuring a shelf adorned with Paddington bears, accompanied by the caption “bye, bye London (sooner than we anticipated) (SAG strong) see you soon nyc [sic]”. Zegler has also been photographed at the SAG-AFTRA protests in New York. The status of additional cast members Antonio Banderas is unknown and updates on the rest of the cast are expected imminently.

Paris and London-based Studiocanal is not affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The company is behind the development and financing of the film - a third entry in the hit $500m global family franchise. It will also assume responsibility for distribution in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and Poland.

However, Sony Pictures, which is an AMPTP member, holds distribution rights for the rest of the world excluding Russia, China, and Japan.

Paddington In Peru will continue on from 2014’s Paddington and 2017’s Paddington 2. It follows the titular bear and the Brown family’s travel to Peru to visit Aunt Lucy.
