Movie news: Fallout Streaming Success and Mufasa: The Lion King First Trailer

The first trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King has been released amidst much anticipation for the film's debut later this year. Meanwhile, Fallout enjoys success on streaming service Amazon with 65 million viewers worldwide. By Ching Wai.

US - The first trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, which will hit theatres on 20 December 2024, has been released. Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film is both an origin story of Mufasa and the follow-up to Jon Favreau’s 2019 The Lion King, which is Disney’s top grossing film with a total of US$1.7 billion at the global box office.

The film’s first teaser trailer debuted for theatre owners at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this month. Jenkins said at the premiere, “It’s an expansive adventure. Audiences can expect so many things in this film - an epic story and a comedy with plenty of familiar faces. There are some absolutely hilarious moments and some with extreme gravitas.”

The voice cast includes Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. The film’s songs are written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Meanwhile, American television series Fallout, based on the video game franchise of the same name, has enjoyed success on Amazon. According to the streamer, the series became the second most watched show on the streaming platform 16 days after its release on 10 April, garnering about 65 million viewers worldwide. Reportedly, international audiences make up more than 60% of the views, and is the most watched title on Prime Video among adults aged 18 to 34.

Amazon Prime Video renewed the series for a second season just eight days after the debut of the first season, when the series was reportedly amongst the top three most-watched titles on the streaming service.

Fallout is created and show run by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, both of whom executive produced with Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and Athena Wickham of Kilter Films, Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios, as well as James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.
