Sony Pictures to Shoot Shark Thriller in Melbourne

The new shark thriller from Sony Pictures set to commence filming at Docklands and on location around the state next month with Bridgerton star, Phoebe Dynevor in the project.

US - Sony Pictures’ untitled shark thriller, expected to star Phoebe Dynevor, is confirmed to shoot in Melbourne, Australia in July. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Dynevor’s involvement was confirmed in May. The film will be directed by Norway’s Tommy Wirkola, known for Universal’s Violent Night, and will be shot at Docklands Studios in Melbourne and on-location around Victoria.

The film was lured to Victoria through the state government’s Screen Incentive program with the expectation it would inject more than $30 million into the Victorian economy, generating almost 700 job opportunities for Victorians, including employing 11 locals in Head of Department roles.

Producers include HyperObject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick (Don’t Look Up, Succession). Notably, this will be Sony Pictures’ first major international film to shoot in Victoria since Ghost Rider in 2005.

The announcement follows the completion of Jonathan Hensleigh’s The Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky, starring Liam Neeson, which used NantStudios virtual production stages at Docklands. The state has also housed production on upcoming Netflix titles Apple Cider Vinegar and The Survivors, the latter of which is in post-production having been filmed in Tasmania.
