Hong Kong has selected the action thriller
Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In as its entry for the 97th Academy
Awards in the Best International Feature Film category12. Directed by Soi
Cheang, the film is based on Andy Seto’s manga series City of Darkness
and set in the 1980s British Colonial Hong Kong. The story follows Chan
Lok-kwun, a troubled youth who finds himself in the notorious Kowloon Walled
City, a haven for gang crime and corruption.
The film has been a significant box office success,
grossing nearly $100 million globally and achieving record-breaking ticket
sales in Hong Kong. It premiered as a midnight screening at the Cannes Film
Festival, where it garnered considerable attention. The cast includes notable
actors such as Raymond Lam, Louis Koo, and Sammo Hung.
This marks the first Oscar submission for director Soi
Cheang, who is known for his work on films like Limbo and The Monkey
King franchise. The Federation of Motion Picture Producers of Hong Kong
announced the selection, highlighting the film’s strong narrative and cultural
significance. With its compelling storyline and impressive production, Twilight
Of The Warriors: Walled In aims to bring Hong Kong cinema to the global
stage once again.
