The Red Envelope’ will be a Thai adaptation of the blockbuster feature from Taiwan.
Thailand - Thai production company GDH
559, known for its hit film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, is
set to remake the Taiwanese blockbuster Marry My Dead Body under the
title The Red Envelope. The remake will star popular actors Billkin
Putthipong Assaratanakul and PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn, reuniting them for the
first time since their successful BL series I Told Sunset About You and
its sequel.
Directed by Chayanop Boonprakob, the film will retain
the original’s supernatural comedy elements, focusing on a straight cop who
accidentally picks up a red envelope and is forced into a ghost marriage with a
gay ghost. The director, Banjong Pisanthanakun, who first saw the original film
at the Hong Kong International Film Festival, believes the unique blend of
humor and supernatural elements will resonate well with Thai audiences.
Billkin and PP are not only starring in the film but
also making their first foray into film investment through their respective
companies, Billkin Entertainment and PP Krit Entertainment1. This project is
part of GDH 559’s broader strategy to adapt successful international films for
the Thai market, with other upcoming releases including 404, Flat Girls,
and Beauty And The Beat.
The remake is anticipated to bring a fresh,
Thai-flavored twist to the beloved Taiwanese story, promising both laughter and
heartfelt moments for the audience.
