ZDF Studios has extended their long-standing partnership with top German factual producer Doclights, unveiling 24 hours of new documentary content. By: Theng Min Yee
The prolongment of their working relationship engenders ZDF Studios distributing 24 hours of Doclights’ new documentary content over the next two years. The first of these documentaries are revealed to be Poland’s Wild East, Iriomote – The Fabric of Life, and A Rhino’s Life.
Poland’s Wild East is a 50-minute film that explores the country’s biggest national park, which serves as a haven for beavers, otters, and countless aquatic birds.
Also on the lineup is Iriomote – The Fabric of Life, which is a 50-minute film that encapsulates the distinctive nature present on Iriomote island, showcasing Japan’s most extensive mangrove forests. The film captures the interdependency between the natural habitat and the tides, which is most reflected when the sea ebbs away to reveal an array of bizarre creatures.
Another 50-minute film set to hit the screens is A Rhino’s Life, which takes viewers on a journey to the African savannah, home to the majestic white rhinoceros. The film chronicles the life of a white rhinoceros’ family in a reserve in Uganda, as nine-year-old-Malaika wanders through the bushland with her two-year-old son Elias.
A renowned producer of high-quality unscripted content, Doclights’ films have been picked up by NDR, ARD, ZDF, ARTE, ORF, Terra Mater, BBC, National Geographic, Curiosity Stream, WWF, NHK amongst others.
Ralf Rückauer, VP of unscripted, ZDF Studios, said: “Doclights are one of the most skilled and widely-travelled producers of factual content with years of experience in storytelling. It is a company with an excellent worldwide reputation for nature and wildlife film production at the highest level. We are pleased to be able to continue our long-standing partnership with Jörn Röver and his team.”
