WWII Film One Life, featuring Anti-Nazi Hero Unveiled

One Life narrates the true-life account of Sir Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton who helped saved children from the Nazis during World War II. By: Syahmi Zulqarnain

London - This cinematic exploration of courage and compassion will feature Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn in the lead roles.

Directed by James Hawes, known for his work on popular TV series like Black Mirror and Doctor Who, One Life traces the gripping journey of Nicky Winton, portrayed by Johnny Flynn. In the months leading up to WWII, Winton orchestrated the daring rescue of 669 children from Nazi-occupied territories, embodying the indomitable spirit of resistance against oppression.

The film then fast-forwards to 1988, with Anthony Hopkins taking on the role of an older Winton. Haunted by the lives he couldn't save, Winton's encounter with surviving children—now adults—on a live BBC television show becomes a poignant moment of closure, highlighting the emotional toll of his courageous actions.

The film was produced by See-Saw Films, the studio behind acclaimed works such as The Power of the Dog, and developed in collaboration with BBC Film. The film is scheduled to have its European premiere on October 12 during the BFI London Film Festival, following its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Director Hawes mentions his pride and honour of having One Life premiere at the festival, commenting on how the film underscores the significance of historical narratives that exemplify humanity's ability to rise above adversity.
