China, Country of Honour at MIPCOM 2023

MIPCOM has named China as the 2023 Country of Honour, and the title comes with a specially curated program of events, designed to celebrate Chinese content, and showcase the nation's contributions to co-production, acquisition, and distribution.

One of the key highlights will be the "Fresh Content China" session, presented by the China Pavilion. This session will feature China's latest content offerings, providing a platform for creatives from the Chinese TV industry to share insights gained from its development both domestically and on the international stage.

Additionally, MIPCOM will host masterclasses focusing on successful format adaptations and the integration of cutting-edge technology in production. Specialised sessions will also spotlight the latest trends in animation, scripted, and non-scripted content originating from China.

Sun Zhonghuai, Vice President of Tencent and CEO of Tencent Online Video, will deliver a keynote address in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals on October 16 at 12 p.m. as part of the conference's esteemed Media Mastermind series. Zhonghuai is set to provide valuable insights into the interplay between art and technology in shaping Tencent Video's strategic direction, as well as opportunities for international collaborations in content creation and streaming.

Lucy Smith, Director of MIPCOM CANNES, expressed excitement about the prospect of spotlighting China's creativity and content. She emphasised that the Country of Honour designation offers an unparalleled opportunity for exploration and discovery, with the potential to forge new global partnerships and business ventures.
