Viu awarded Special Contribution to K-Wave at Asia Contents Awards and Global OTT Awards 2023

HONG KONG – Viu has made the announcement that it had attained the accolade for Special Contribution to K-Wave at the Asia Contents Awards and Global OTT Awards (ACA & G.OTT Awards) 2023 held in Korea on 8 October. The newly introduced category acknowledges the role of OTT platforms in propelling K-content into a global phenomenon. As the pioneer in this industry, Viu is distinct for its significant impact in bringing Korean and other Asian content to global scale, boasting more than 60 million active users within its network.

The ACA & G.OTT Awards is a recognition platform that applauds outstanding content crafted for television, OTT platforms, and online channels throughout Asia. This event marks a rebranding of the fifth edition of the Asia Contents Awards (ACA), reflecting its commitment to adapting to the evolving content landscape and endorsing high-quality domestic and international content.

Since the birth of Viu back in 2015, it has been one of the strongest promoters of Asian content, especially in K-content outside of Korea in the digital space. Viu rolls out localised K-dramas on the same day as their telecast in Korea, on top of actively investing in Korean Viu Originals. Viu was one of the first OTT service providers to implement the freemium model which helped propel it to popularity and increase the intake of Korean content in the digital space, proficiently monetising K-content for both AVOD and SVOD.
