MIPCOM 2023 concluded on 19 October with more than 11,000 participants from 100 countries attending the 39th edition of the international co-production and entertainment content market. By: Wee Yan Ling
During the event, discussions regarding major US studios re-entering the licensing business with key figures such as Paramount Global’s president and CEO, Bob Bakish, and Warner Bros International’s president, Gerhard Zeiler, emphasising this. However, there were around 70 Israeli attendees who cancelled their plans due to the ongoing war at Hamas.
C21’s international editor Nico Franks, North American editor Jordan Pinto, kids editor Karolina Kaminska, senior reporter Neil Batey and Cveintiuno editor Pina Mazzera discussed the main topics of conversation during this year’s Mipcom. A plethora of topics were discussed such as the resurgence of distribution, a lack of commissions for original ideas, the role of artificial intelligence, and the perspective of producers on surviving until 2025.
The CEO and president of Dori Media Group who is a former Israel Defence Forces commander, Nadav Palti, shared his determination to be present for the event in spite of the ongoing war back in his country. He has also expressed his commitment to continuing business activities even as his friends and family are affected by war, and production within Israel on hold.
