Kevin Feige Confirms Termination of Star Wars film

The Marvel Studios President, who was set to produce a Star Wars feature, will be going with other plans as he focuses on current films and TV shows in the MCU. By: Dylan Low

When asked whether his Star Wars feature film was happening, he simply replied with a ‘No’. It was a part of a bigger interview at the premiere of The Marvels in Las Vegas.

In 2019, it was originally planned that Feige was discussing the possibility of a Star Wars project, when it was announced back in January 2021, he hired Loki’s producer, Michael Waldron to produce the script.

The landscape was different then when Feige spoke to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and ex-co-chairmen of Disney studios Alan Horn and Alan Bergman.

The Rise of Skywalker did not feature in theatres yet, and The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda had not featured in Disney+ in those earlier times.

“I love that world and the notion of exploring with new people and new places in that universe,” mentioned Feige.

Lucasfilm has developed a number of major blockbuster projects over the past few years, however, there have been several annulled films, including a Games of Thrones trilogy scripted by David Benioff and DB Weiss and Rogue Squandron directed by Patty Jenkins. Feige’s project now joins the list. Lucasfilm is proceeding with a feature about Rise of Skywalker‘s Daisy Ridley, set to be directed by Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Features from Mandalorian‘s Dave Filoni and James Mangold are also in progress.
