While The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes secures a solid opening, The Marvels experiences a historic decline in its second weekend. By: Wee Yan Ling
The highly anticipated prequel from Lionsgate, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes have debuted with an impressive $44 million domestically. In spite of falling short of the expectation of $50 million, the film has managed to attain the 1st spot as compared to the others movies.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has earned $54.5 million from 87 international markets, making the combined revenue a total of $98.5 million.
However, The Marvels has faced an astounding 78% decline in the second weekend which warrants it the title of being Marvel Studios’ worst second-weekend decline and a record setting dip for any Hollywood superhero film in modern history. The movie has attained roughly $10.2 million at the box office last weekend.
The Hunger Games prequel remains optimistic as it is able to capitalise on the coming Thanksgiving week to garner more viewers to bolster their performance at the box office.
