In a significant new casting after the SAG-AFTRA strike, Superman: Legacy has found its Lex Luthor, with Nicholas Hoult in discussions to portray the role of the classic villain. By: Dylan Low
Nicholas Hoult is set to play the Man of Steel’s arch nemesis in Superman: Legacy, finalising the main casting for the superhero reboot, as David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan are named to play Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Gunn, the co-chief of DC Studios and the writer-director of the film, chose Hoult for the position of Luthor, who depicts the industry titan with a bald head and an adamant objective on defeating the superhuman Kryptonian.
Following the end of the actors’ strike, Gunn started his search for the role. He verified on social media platforms that María Gabriela de Faría was recently selected as another villain in the film, the Engineer. For the superheroes, Superman will be assisted by Green Lantern who is portrayed by Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific played by Edi Gathegi and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho.zzz
Superman: Legacy marks the first feature film in DC Studios’ revamp of the DC universe in film and television, announced by Gunn and his co-chief Peter Safran back in January. On November 11th, Gunn announced that with continuous work of his production team during the strikes, the film is still targeted to make its initial scheduled premiere on July 11, 2025.
Hoult has had a busy schedule currently, featuring in Clint Eastwood’s anticipated legal thriller film Juror #2; He also joins the animated childhood film Garfield as the voice of Jon, Garfield’s owner; and appears in Robert Eggers’ drama film Nosferatu alongside Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Bill Skarsgard.
