The NFL Super Bowl rematch on Monday Night Football rallied high audience numbers, which is the biggest for any television broadcast since the Super Bowl. By: Dylan Low
The Philadelphia Eagles’ 21-17 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs attracted more than 29 million viewers across all platforms, marking the highest viewership for a Monday Night Football broadcast in 27 years. The previous time Monday Night Football brought in more audience was back in November of 1996, when there were 31.5 million people watching a matchup between Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.
The game landed the biggest audience in any NFL game this season, although the record is set to last for a few days. The late afternoon game has averaged higher than 30 million viewers in eight of the previous nine years. The previous record accumulated 27.14 million viewers for Fox’s late afternoon national broadcast on November 5th.
The game streamed on platforms ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and streaming services ESPN+ and NFL+. ABC had the biggest portion of the audience with 15.55 million viewers, with ESPN taking 11.49 million and ESPN2’s Manningcast raking in above 1.9 million.
In the current season, Monday Night Football has simultaneously streamed games on ABC for every week except for two, averaging around 16.65 million viewers weekly which makes it 26 percent higher than the same time last season. The integration of ABC for the whole season has benefitted much growth, as Monday’s ESPN audience on its own was leading the same week in 2022.
