Jenna Ortega Exits Scream VII Following Co-Star's Firing

Jenna Ortega played a monumental role in reviving life into the Scream franchise. However, she had taken her leave one day after Melissa Barrera had been terminated. Melissa Barrera’s dismissal was after she had made dozens of social media posts in regards of the Israel-Hamas war. Contrary to popular speculations, the departure of Ortega was unrelated to the exit of Barrera. Instead, it is in regards to contractual matters.

Reports had revealed that the actress either had no deal in place or negotiated for a compensation package that is considered excessive for the movie company. After Spyglass had refused to bring back the original franchise star Neve Campbell due to salary demands, the film is now grappling with the loss of two integral cast members.

Barrera and Ortega played sisters in the franchise since 2022 and had made a huge contribution in the rejuvenation of the series. However, the rise of stardom for Ortega largely attributed to her role in Netflix’s Wednesday may have contributed to the negotiations reaching an impasse.
