A surprise cancellation hits The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as the host takes an unexpected hiatus to recover from surgery following a ruptured appendix. By: Wee Yan Ling
Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show, had called off one week of episodes following the Thanksgiving break after suffering from a ruptured appendix. Colbert is taking the time off to recuperate from his surgery.
The news was announced on the official Threads page of the CBS show on Monday. It encapsulated Colbert’s regret, “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’.” He then went on to reveal about undergoing a surgery for his ruptured appendix and expressed his gratitude for his doctors and family for putting up with him.
There have been several disruptions for The Late Show in recent times with a notable five-month amidst the Writers Guild of America Strike which ended in September. During the period, a podcast was hosted featuring fellow late-night hosts including Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and John Oliver. The show was continued in early October however was cancelled for the rest of the week later that month due to Colbert having contracted Covid.
