French TV production group Banijay has made an offer for All3Media, which is the production-distribution company for Jamie Dornan’s The Tourist, Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Fleabag and popular Dutch game show The Traitors. By: Dylan Low
Warner Bros. Discovery and Liberty Global, co-owners of All3Media, had privately put the company for sale negotiations earlier in 2023. UK commercial public service broadcaster ITV initially showed an interest before withdrawing. According to sources ITV was apprehensive of the market conditions and potential conflict of interest in the production area.
Northroad Company, owned by Peter Chernin, had also put up a bid before dropping out from the process. Since July, Mediawan, Banijay and Sony are currently placed as frontrunners to purchase the company.
Banijay recently submitted a deal but has not received a response. Banijay reportedly placed a “binding” offer but offers from other bidders are still taken into account. One bidder will be picked subsequently in due time. The All3Media group consists of a distribution arm in All3Media International and digital agency Little Dot Studios.
WBD and Liberty are expecting to sell All3Media for a value around £1.3 billion. They bought the company back in 2014 for £550 million, which converts to approximately $686 million.
