Full River Red, takes centre stage at CineAsia 2023, securing Huanxi Media Beijing the prestigious Asia Pacific Box Office Achievement Award. By: Wee Yan Ling
Huanxi Media Beijing has been thrusted into the limelight at the CineAsia convention thanks to Zhang Yimou’s Full River Red. Released in January, the film is a periodic comedy-drama that has broken records and claimed the title of Zhang’s highest-grossing film to date. It had attained an impeccable $670 million based on the APAC region alone.
The impressive figures were presented upon the opening day in China when the film raked in $60 million before an additional $183 million during the first three days. Within a week, the film had raked in more than $430 million in box office and amassed a total of 56 million admissions. Full River Red had clinched the title of China’s top film of the year and had also solidified its stance as the sixth highest-grossing movie in China’s cinematic history.

Zhang has played multiple roles throughout his career which includes being an actor, cinematographer, producer and screenwriter. He is also China’s most celebrated filmmaker and had recently attained the lifetime achievement award at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
