Will Smith Offers Latest News on I am Legend 2 with Michael B. Jordan

Notable actor Will Smith covered recent updates about the I am Legend sequel which he features and produces along with Michael B. Jordan, on Saturday night at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. By: Dylan Low

The upcoming sequel is based on the other ending seen in the 2007 post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie’s DVD showcase, not the theatrical format where his character dies, mentioned Smith.

Will Smith, one of the many Hollywood A-list star guests at the third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival, also talked about his other film Bad Boys 4. He and fellow co-star Martin Lawrence will feature in their original roles again, which they last portrayed in earlier instalments of the first 1995 blockbuster detective film.

“I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. We’re really close, script just came in,” Smith talked about I Am Legend 2 at a festival’s In Conversation event. “You have to be a real I Am Legend buff to know this, but in the first, theatrical version, my character dies, but on the DVD there was an alternate version of the ending where my character lived. We are going with the mythology of the DVD version. I can’t tell you anything more, but Michael B. Jordan is in.”

An actor with a substantial number of film successes, he stated it does not matter to him whether he appears in blockbuster or modest film projects — as long as it was of quality and a learning curve to him.

He claimed, “The thing for me is that I have wanted to make good movies that were blockbuster, or blockbusters that were good. To me, the concept of a blockbuster is your heart — the block that gets busted is your heart, where your heart opens to the experience of the movie. That is what I have always concentrated on; even with something like I Am Legend – you can give a real performance at the centre of a special effects movie.”
