Netflix Serial Killer Comedy Takes a Dark Turn after Adam McKay’s Departure

Netflix's star-studded serial killer comedy, Average Height, Average Build, faces an uncertain future after writer and director Adam McKay's departure. By: Wee Yan Ling

Sources have confirmed Netflix’s decision to not proceed with Average Height, Average Build after the departure of Adam McKay. The renowned director has instead ventured into the urgent global issue of climate change which deviates from his past works that delved into subjects such as the financial crash of 2008, the Iraq War, and natural disasters.

Average Height, Average Build portrays Pattinson as a serial murderer partnering with a lobbyist to change the law, allowing him to kill without consequences. Downey was slated to play a cop determined to bring the killer to justice, creating a satirical commentary on Beltway dysfunction.

McKay’s choice to venture into darkly comedic aspects of climate change has raise doubts regarding how he will be approaching the issue as well as Netflix’s involvement in the project. McKay is known for his works in The Big Short, Vice and Don’t Look Up due to his track record of combining humour into intricate and challenging topics.

Mckay has also previously won an Oscar for writing The Big Short and had received nominations for directing, scriptwriting and best pictures for various films.
