Matthew Perry died of Acute Effects of Ketamine

Friends’ actor Matthew Perry died from “the acute effects of ketamine,” stated by the toxicology report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. The exact method of intake remains unclear. By: Dylan Low

Other factors are stated to be drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, which is usually used to treat opioid use disorder. The means of death was claimed to be an accident.

Perry had been going through ketamine infusion therapy before his passing, allegedly due to depression and anxiety. The toxicology report further details, “At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.”

Perry tragically passed away on Saturday, October 28th 2023. Authorities came to his doorstep at Los Angeles around 4pm and found him in a hot bathtub. There was no indication of possible foul play or drugs at the location.

His most popular role was the hilarious yet sarcastic Chandler Bing on the series Friends in the 1990s and early 2000s. He featured in over 200 episodes of the NBC sitcom that spanned up to 10 seasons.

Continually outspoken about his battle with alcohol and drug addiction in his career, He published his memoir, titled “Friends, Lovers and the big Terrible Thing,” last year. Following reports of his death, the Matthew Perry Foundation was set up, aiming to assist individuals who are also undergoing issues with addiction.
