The five-time Cesar award winner’s punishment is more serious than prosecutors first claimed, which was supposedly an 18-month prison sentence and the fine. The harsh sentence was implemented following Adjani failing to appear at her October 19th trial hearing in Paris, claiming to have medical reasons that prevented her from coming back from travel from New York then.
“Isabelle Adjani, who has always maintained her innocence, wasn’t able to make her case heard,” her lawyer Pardo stated in regards to the Paris court’s refusal permitting her to reschedule her trial hearing. “They said she is not above the law, which is true, but she is not under the law either,” he further mentioned.
After the announcement of her trial sentence, the head judge claimed, “While [Adjani] may be an undeniably talented actress, she nevertheless remains subject to taxes.”
