Emma Stone Claims ‘Work In Progress” for Cruella’s Second Film
Emma Stone has publicly mentioned that filming for Disney’s Cruella sequel will start “Hopefully sooner rather than later.” By: Dylan Low
Stone, who portrays the main anti-hero character Cruella de Vil in the 2021 live action prequel movie to 101 Dalmatians, has further stated that the continuation film is “a work in progress.”
The famed actress has continued to offer updates on the long-awaited sequel on the red carpet for the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Thursday night. When questioned about reprising her role as the iconic antagonist, she said, “It’s a blast. She’s a blast. So yeah, we’ll see. It’s a work in progress.”
The original Cruella film was a box office success, garnering higher than $220 million at the global box office. Updates of a possible developing sequel released only weeks after the film’s premiere in theatres. Stone was established to make a franchise comeback in August 2021. Director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are also presumed to return.
Cruella showcases an introduction story for the antagonist of the fan-favourite animated movie 101 Dalmatians. Set in 1970s London, a young and orphaned Cruella dreams to be a fashion designer, working for the egotistical fancy couture designer Baroness Von Hellman (portrayed by Emma Thompson). Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser also joined the cast as Cruella’s long-term friends and partners in crime. Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Mark Strong also participated as supporting role members.
Other than starring in Cruella, Stone served as an executive producer on the Disney film. The actress is promoting her latest movie Poor Things, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Her portrayal of the reanimated Bella Baxter has created awards buzz this season. At the moment, she is nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in the musical and comedy film.
