Butler will reprise the father role of Stoick the Vast in the live-action remake under the direction of co-director Dean DeBlois. By: Wee Yan Ling
The film is slated for release in 2025, June. The live-action will feature Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as Hiccup and Nico Parker (The Last of Us) as Astrid. The stars will be taking over the roles initially voiced by Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera respectively.
Based on Cressida Cowell’s books, the trilogy narrates the journey of a viking boy and his dragon, Toothless. It was released between 2010 and 2019 and the animated series has been propelled to global fame as it has amassed more than $1.6 billion.
Marc Platt, from Marc Platt Productions, and Adam Siegel, president of Platt’s banner, take on the role of producers, while Universal's Lexi Barta oversees the project. The live-action remake promises to blend the magic of the original storyline with fresh perspectives, as it ventures into the realm of Vikings and dragons.
