Gomez, who featured in the comedy series Only Murders in the Building, teased the role Tuesday night by uploading a photo of Ronstadt’s 2013 studio album title “Simple Dreams”, on her Instagram story.
The music biopic is in pre-production at the moment, joined by producers such as Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, and James Keach, who also produced the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice. Other castings for the biopic have yet to be revealed.
Ronstadt is known by many as a country, rock ‘n’ roll and Latin music legend, as her 1970s albums “Heart Like a Wheel” and “Simple Dreams” have reached critical and commercial acclaim and showcased her versatility in many genres. In the span of her career, she has received 11 Grammys, while being honoured by both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Both Ronstadt and Gomez are of Mexican descent. The latter has been nominated twice for a Golden Globe with her role on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which she executive produces and features alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. Gomez first broke out with her acting gig on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place and gained success as a music artist with top tracks such as “Lose You to Love Me” and “Love You Like a Love Song.”
