Jeremy Allen White Clinches First Emmy for The Bear

Jeremy Allen White has secured his first Emmy win for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series. By: Wee Yan Ling

Comedy series The Bear is not short of accolades as they keep pouring in, as Jeremy Allen White has seized the limelight at the 75th Emmy Awards for receiving his first-ever Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series. His win follows the show’s triumphant sweep of the Golden Globes’ comedy categories.

White has been celebrated for his portrayal of the charismatic chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, graciously accepting his Emmy on Monday night with a heartfelt expression of gratitude.

“I’m so proud, I’m so full of gratitude to be standing in front of you all.”

“I love the show so much,” he continued. “It filled me up. It gave me a passion, set a fire in me to match the beautiful work. I love you guys. The beautiful cast and beautiful crew I get to share a space and stage with. Thank you to all those who have stayed close to me, especially in this past year. You know who you are. Thank you for believing in me when I had trouble believing in myself.”

The competition for the lead actor comedy category was intense as White has overcome renowned contenders such as Bill Hader (Barry), Jason Segel (Shrinking), Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building) and Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso).

The 75th annual Emmy Awards has faced a delay despite originally scheduled for September due to the WGA and SAG strikes. For the first time in Emmy history, two ceremonies are slated for 2024, with the 76th annual Emmys set for September 2024, honouring shows that premiered between June 1 and May 31.
