France Télévisions Harnesses Paris 2024 Olympics to Expand France.tv Streaming Services

The broadcaster plans to introduce specialised channels, focusing on sports like basketball and BMX, while also expanding its content for a younger audience. By: Wee Yan Ling

France Télévisions is going to utilise the upcoming 2024 Olympics as a strategic launchpad for the expansion and redesign of its France.tv streaming platform. The Olympic torch’s arrival in Marseille on May 8 will be the inauguration of the dedicated Paris 2024 channel on the streaming service. It will be focusing on sports such as basketball and BMX.

France.tv will act as a third channel during the Olympic Games which will complete France 2 as they showcase the game highlights. France 3 will be covering team sports. This is done so to allow for comprehensive coverage of the event across the various channels.

After the Olympics, the broadcaster aims to grow France.tv’s audience as they target the younger demographic and place emphasis on live streaming and interactive content.

In order to do so, the youth news program, C quoi l’info? will be distributed into three parts targeting age groups 8-12, 12-18 and 18-25. Thematic strands such as health and parenting will also be highlighted. France.tv Docs, a channel dedicated to documentaries will be launched with a newly introduced channel focused on TV series.

France.tv is made distinct as they editorialise their content and prioritise curated offerings over algorithm-based recommendations. The steaming platform has also grown in investment from €80 million in 2018 to €200 million currently. Their significant investment underscores the commitment in enhancing its streaming service and capturing a broader audience in the competitive digital landscape.
