KABC's Cheryl Fair Calls It Quits After Five Decades with ABC
The President and General Manager of KABC Los Angeles, has announced her retirement, marking the end of an era. By: Wee Yan Ling
After
a remarkable 50-year journey with ABC, Cheryl Fair, a stalwart in the realm of
broadcasting, has decided to bid farewell to her role as President and General
Manager of KABC Los Angeles.
Fair
had spent the last 30 years at KABC and another two decades at WPVI
Philadelphia, conveyed her decision to retire at the end of March, coinciding
with the anniversary of her initial association with ABC stations five decades
ago.
Fair
expressed the difficulty in leaving her KABC family stating, “The most
difficult part of making this decision is leaving all of you, my KABC family –
and we really are a family,” she wrote. “I have had the distinct honour to work
with all of you through some of the best and worst times in our lives. I have
watched many of you quite literally grow up, finish college, get married, and
have families of your own. I have seen all of you rise to the challenges we
faced, do amazing work, and serve this community with distinction year in and
year out. I am so grateful for every day I have spent with you.
Nonetheless, it is time for a new chapter in my life.”
In
a separate memo, OConnel and Matthews have underscored Fair’s journey. From her
beginnings at WPVI in Philadelphia to steering KABC as the leading station in
the Los Angeles market. Fair is praised and celebrated for her leadership,
integrity, creativity and positivity.
Cheryl
Fair took on the position of President and General Manager of KABC-TV in 2015
after she had served as the Vice President and News Director for more than two
decades. KABC has consistently dominated the Los Angeles market during her
guidance and solidified its position as the top-rated news operation.
