Apple Vision Pro Welcomes Disney+ into Its Virtual Reality Lineup

Apple's groundbreaking mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, is set to redefine the streaming experience as it opens for pre-orders, featuring Disney+ among its exclusive offerings. By: Wee Yan Ling

Apple’s highly-anticipated Apple Vision Pro headset is now available for pre-orders with an official launch scheduled for February 2. A notable characteristic of this state-of-the-art headset is the incorporation of the Disney+ which enhances the streaming experience.

Users of the Apple Vision Pro will be able to select from the four distinct Disney+ environments which are specially curated to enhance the entertainment journey. The environments range from the iconic EI Capitan Theatre in Hollywood to Marvel’s Avengers Tower and the cockpit of Luke Skywalker’s land speeder from Star Wars, which is embellished with a unique blend of animations, sounds and hidden gems from renowned films.

The environments were composed with the help of the Universal Scene Description (USD) format, a creation of Pixar open-sourced in 2016. Movies encoded in Multiview High Efficiency Video Coding (MV-HEVC) with Dolby Vision will be presented in UHD resolution with HDR, which renders a visual feast for the streaming enthusiasts.

Subscribers of Disney+ are able to enjoy the full catalogue with access to Hulu for Disney Bundle subscribers in the United States. Notable 3D movies such as Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be made available with more titles joining the lineup as time progresses.

A salient feature to note is the integration of 150 3D movies at launch which encompasses renowned titles such as Dune, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Users of the Apple Vision Pro can access 3D versions when available to rent or purchase from the Apple TV app and those who own the 3D editions are able to enjoy them on the headset with no additional cost.

“At Disney, we’re constantly searching for new ways to entertain, inform, and inspire by combining exceptional creativity with groundbreaking technology to create truly remarkable experiences,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
