Singapore Film Society (SFS) will enter their third film distribution partnership, this time collaborating with acclaimed director Derrick Lui for Singapore’s first-ever race car film title Oversteer. By: Dylan Low
The global premiere of Oversteer is set to take place on Wednesday, 31st January, 7pm at Golden Village Vivocity.
Chairman of Singapore Film Society Kenneth Tan stated, "We are deeply honoured and immensely delighted to help Derrick distribute and promote his latest feature film. In the relatively short time we've gotten to know each other, I've developed high admiration, the utmost respect, and an amazing friendship with this talented, committed gentleman who's an inspiring example for all Singaporean and global talent to follow."
Derrick Lui, director of Oversteer, described what sparked his inspiration for the film, “I have loved cars for as long as I can remember. When I was in my 20s, I even imported a half cut from Japan to modify into my Nissan S13! That era was a time where I was spending all my time in workshops and race events.”
Based on a real-life story, the inspiration for this film stemmed from Lui’s prior experiences in races and car modifications at a young age. Lui’s childhood passion is wholly showcased in this exciting fast-paced film.
The
film debut on 31 January will also be an SFS Spotlight event and is
complimentary with limited-time tickets for SFS members. The movie screening
will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Derrick Lui.
