Netflix’s film chief is bidding farewell to the streaming giant as he takes on a new journey to establish his own media company. Stuber has been an integral part of Netflix since 2017 and will be staying with the company till the middle of March. Chief content officer Bela Bajaria will spearhead the search for his successor.
It is reported that Stuber has clinched the financing for his upcoming business and will focus on the production of movies and television series. During his time at Netflix, he had played a significant role in overseeing the acquisition, development and the production of various films such as Bird Box, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
“Seven
years ago, Reed and Ted offered me the amazing opportunity to join Netflix and
create a new home for original movies,” Stuber said in a statement. “I am proud
of what we accomplished and am so grateful to all the filmmakers and talent who
trusted us to help tell their stories. Thank you to Ted, Reed, Greg, Bela and
the entire team. I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
Stuber
had contributed significantly to the success of Netflix to be one of
Hollywood’s most prolific studios. His strategic focus on releasing a new film
weekly in the early years had propelled the growth where he shifted his focus
on having more quality over quantity.
Prior
to joining the media giant, Stuber was the founder of Bluegrass Films which
boasted successful comedies and action-adventures. He has a diverse portfolio
of having served as the vice chairman of worldwide production at Universal,
contributing to the success of renowned films and franchises.
