Talpa
Studios’ Million Dollar Island is sailing to new shores after its
success in the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, and the U.S., and the Middle
East. The groundbreaking partnership is held through a creative partnership
with Monday Media and is commissioned by Kanal D and set to be produced
in-house for the Romanian audience. Casting is in the works with thousands of
applicants eager to participate in the high-stakes competition.
Sebastian van Barneveld, Director Global Distribution at Talpa Studios: "We are very excited about Million Dollar Island reaching Romania through Kanal D. This format caters to the growing need for exciting adventure reality, and is continually evolving and adapting with each new local version.”
Million
Dollar Island is a groundbreaking social
experiment where a hundred contestants strive to survive on a remote island for
two months in hopes of winning one million dollars. The competition goes beyond
survival as contestants start the game with a $10,000 bracelet and face
challenges as they lose or gain bracelets in exchange through the games, they
participate in. Alliances and friendships are vital as contestants must
navigate the strategic landscape to stay in the game.
While
they're on the island, contestants can gain and lose bracelets by competing in
various games. They can also receive bracelets from other contestants. When
someone gives up and decides to leave the island, they must give their
bracelet(s) to a contestant who stays behind. On this show, alliances mean
everything, and friendships are worth a fortune. Some contestants will become
richer by winning games and inheriting bracelets, while those who lose and fail
to collect new bracelets must eventually go home. By the last day, only a few
contestants are left on the island. In a thrilling finale, they'll each get
their chance to cash in their bracelets in an exciting test of nerves.
