Tragedy Strikes as Marvel's Wonder Man Crew Member Dies in Accident on set

The incident took place on Tuesday, involving a rigger who fell from the rafters during non-filming hours. By: Wee Yan Ling

A crewmember, identified as a rigger, lost his life in an accident on Tuesday. Despite the show not being on production that day, the crew was engaged in their duties.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is playing the role of Simon Williams, a stuntman-turned-superhero as the lead role. Marvel Studios released a statement expressing their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased crew member. The studio will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation led by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the union representing behind-the-scenes workers, has issued a statement as well. The president expressed shock and deep sorrow and assured support for the member’s family and colleagues.

Wonder Man completed some filming before the SAG-AFTRA strike which stopped production in July. The progress of the remaining work remains unclear with sources suggesting that the majority of shooting has come to an end and only a few pick-ups left in the coming days or weeks.

Noteworthy talents include Destin Daniel Creton from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Andrew Guest from Brooklyn Nine-Nine as they form the behind-the-scenes team of Wonder Man. Ben Kingsley is going to reprise his role as Trevor Slattery in the Marvel production.
